Moving Tips

1. Throw away all: liquid (liquor, shampoo, etc.) , flammable (gas tanks, cleaning supplies, etc.)

2. Pack up your personal things (toothbrush, razor, soap, etc.) in a special bag you could take in your car so that you could use it as soon as you get to your new home if need be. In addition , make sure you put away some plastic utensils , paper plates or you might just treat yourself and eat out on the 1st day of your move:)

3. Keep the weight of your boxes reasonable (usually around 50 lbs per box)

4. The movers should have tools, but it's strongly recommended that you have a small kit for items that need to be disassembled.

5. Move on a weekday if you can, some movers charge a time and half on weekends.

6.  If you move locally, you may want to leave your pets with a friend during the moving day. Animals can be frightened and confused during a move.

7.Pack boxes to the top. This prevents them from being crushed when they are stacked.

8. Make sure your dresser drawers are completely empty. Many movers will not move dressers with drawers full and you would have to empty them on the day of the move.

9. Make sure to carry with you any medication or any other important documentation.

10. Tape the bottom of every box, and tape the top tight when the boxes are full. Run two strips of tape along the side and one strip down the center.
